Trapa natans | Water Chestnut

Trapa natans, commonly known as water caltrop or water chestnut, is an annual aquatic plant native to Eurasia and Africa. It features distinctive floating rosettes of diamond-shaped, toothed leaves supported by inflated petioles, and submerged feathery leaves. Small, white, four-petalled flowers bloom from July to early September, leading to the development of hard, spiny fruits containing starchy seeds. These seeds have been consumed for centuries in various cultures. While valued in some regions, Trapa natans can become invasive,
